DIY tapioca pearls for bubble tea at home (boba)

How to Make Tapioca In Less Than 5 Minutes

So you’ve got your tea, milk, and sweetener ready to make the perfect cup of bubble tea at home. But what about the pearls? Can you even make those yourself?

The answer is: yes! You absolutely can and it’s a lot simpler than you might think it is. Using Retea’s Uncooked Tapioca Pearls, you can make your own in less than 10 minutes. You can also find packs of uncooked tapioca in stores but those typically take 30 minutes to cook.

You’ll need:

⅓ cup of tapioca

1 ½ cup of water

Brown sugar or honey (optional)

  1. First, boil your water. Once that’s going, slowly add in your tapioca pearls and stir lightly so that they don’t stick.
  2. When all the tapioca floats to the surface, cover the pot. Cook on medium heat for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Turn off heat and simmer for another 2-3 minutes (adjust time to personal taste).
  4. Rinse with cold water and mix in ~1 tbsp of your choice of sweetener. Let it sit for at least 5 minutes to really soak up the flavour before serving.

And voila! You have the most popular bubble tea topping right in your own kitchen. Since you’re making your own tapioca, you can even customize the chewiness of the pearls.

Longer cook time = softer pearls

Shorter cook time = chewier pearls

Remember to avoid excessive heat or moisture. Consume within 1-2 months. Once the bag is opened, store in an airtight container to maintain its freshness!
